On the eve of Lunar New Year, we Chinese usually have reunion dinner with our family as symbolic gesture of giving thanks for the year that has passed as well as to celebrate the coming of a brand new year. However, unlike our usual family dinners, we will prepare more complicated & in a way more indulgent dishes as part of the celebration. This Braised Pig’s Stomach with Mushrooms & Sea Cucumber is an excellent dish to be added on your reunion dinner menu.

1 piece of cinnamon bark
1 piece of star anise
1 teaspoon of white peppercorn
1 bulb of garlic – with skin intact
1 thumb size ginger – smashed
50ml of chicken stock
200ml of the liquid which was used to soak your mushrooms
1 tablespoon of low sodium light soya sauce
1 tablespoon of oyster sauce
2 tablespoons of Chinese rice wine

4 extra large Chinese mushrooms
1.5 cups of water
150g of long cabbage
Some broccoli as garnish
1 piece of sea cucumber
0.5 tablespoon of premium dark soya sauce
0.5 teaspoon of sugar
Some cornstarch solution to thicken the sauce
