Pretzel Dogs

Pretzel Dogs take a little time to make, but OMG!!! It is so worth it. The taste of a hot dog wrapped in a salty, chewy pretzel is hard to beat.

Pretzel Dogs

I can’t think of a better lunch. Pretzel dough elevates a boring old hot dog to a whole other stratosphere. Your kids will love them!

How to make Pretzel Dogs:

You will need to make a dough and let it rise. I use bread flour for my dough beacuse it has a higher gluten content and produces a chewier pretzel. You can use all-purpose flour and still get great results.

It’s best to use a stand mixer to mix the dough.  Start with the paddle attachment and then switch to the dough hook.

The dough will need to rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk. This will probably take an hour, longer if your house is cool.

Then divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll them into thin ropes about 20 inches long and wrap each one around a hot dog. Working in batches, boil them in water with baking soda for 30 seconds.

Place them on a baking sheet, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake them for 12 to 14 minutes.
